Hawai'i High School Humanitarian Scholarship Awarded by: The Davis Levin Livingston Charitable Foundation |
The Scholarship: It is easy for the youth of today to believe they are too young or too powerless to make a difference. But, in the words of the Dalai Lama, “If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito.” The law firm of Davis Levin Livingston is looking for Hawaii’s High School Humanitarian—a college-bound high school student who has demonstrated a profound commitment to making a positive difference in Hawaii. The law firm of Davis Levin Livingston, founded in 1980 by a small group of public interest lawyers, has long focused on making Hawaii a better place. The firm’s lawyers and staff have been at the forefront of battles for civil rights, social justice, accountability, and equality. In addition to the law firm’s work within the judicial system, Davis Levin Livingston established the Davis Levin Livingston Charitable Foundation, which helps to fund legal education and other projects designed to preserve and improve the civil justice system, and to support community engagement. Davis Levin Livingston recognizes that there are many young students throughout the State of Hawaii who are devoting enormous time and energy to help solve the problems plaguing our Islands. Too often, such good deeds go unnoticed. The $10,000 Hawaii High School Humanitarian Scholarship is an effort to notice and reward a graduating high school student who has been a leader in making Hawaii a better place. |
