Dear Students, Parents or Guardians:

It is my hope that every student will have a successful and rewarding experience in the graphics arts program at Konawaena High School. In order to achieve this goal I want to inform both the parent and the student about the course objectives and classroom expectations. Course Description:

 

Graphic arts is a Career, Technology, Education(CTE) course that is part of the Arts and Communication Pathway and will provide the student with the opportunity to use current computer technology to create printed media such as packaging, logos, brochures and advertising. Students will have the opportunity to learn traditional art techniques and the following graphic software applications: Microsoft Powerpoint, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, and Macromedia Flash and Dreamweaver. Students will also learn about career opportunities, understand and utilize the principals and elements of design, and apply media, technology, techniques and processes related to the visual arts.

 

Course Objectives:

 

Students will meet the following State Technology Standards:

Social, Ethical and Human Issues – Students understand the ethical, cultural, and societal issues related to technology. Students practice responsible use of technology systems, information, and software.

Technology as a Tool for Productivity- Students use technology tools to enhance learning, increase productivity, and promote creativity. Students us productivity tools to collaborate in constructing technology, preparing publications, and producing other creative works.

Technology as a Tool for communications- Students use technology to communicate, to collaborate, publish, and interact with peers, experts, and other audiences. Students use a variety of media and formats to communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences.

Assignments and Projects:

          Participation in lectures, labs and demonstrations

Complete/Pass Quizzes and Exams

Complete all computer and drawing assignments/projects

Complete Electronic Portfolio-Power Point Demonstration of class projects

Completes homework assignments

 

 

 

 

Grading Criteria:

 

Your quarter and semester grade will be based on the following:

 

60% Completion of all assignments, projects, portfolio and home work

20 % Effort and Attitude: Students are expected to do their best and follow class rules.
10% Participation: Students need to be present for lectures, demonstrations and workshops.

10% Clean up: Students are expected to show respect for classroom environment

 

A-   100-90% Exceeds standards, exceptional work, goes beyond what is expected, completes all assignments, participates in class discussions.

B-   89-80 % Meets standards, does good work, completes all assignments and projects.

C-   79-65% Makes an effort to complete technology standards and class projects.

D-   65-50% Does not meet standards, poor work ethic.

F- Below 50% Insufficient evidence

Roll of Paper Towels

Pens/Pencils/Colored Pencils

Two BLANK CD’s

Jump Drive (optional)

Kneaded eraser (optional)

Ruler and circle template (optional)

 

Classroom Rules:

 

CELL PHONES, GAME-BOYS, I-PODS AND CD PLAYERS are not to be used during class time. If you have an emergency, call the school, and a message will be given promptly to your child. Electronical devices will be confiscated if used during class.

Students will be expected to arrive on time, respect others opinions and to clean after themselves. Parents please help us in making sure your daughter/son dresses appropriately for school. Drinking water in class is allowed, all other drinks are not to be brought or open during class time.
